HEAVY METAL IN MOZAMBIQUE: TERRA PESADA DOCUMENTARY COMING SOON

A couple of notable pieces have recently surfaced that challenge the assertion that Africa doesn’t have much in the way of its own metal bands: Vice’s fascinating feature on Botswana’s Cowboy Metalheads and Ian Christe’s post for Noisecreep highlighting seven notable African metal bands. OK, so Africa is an absolutely gigantic continent and those two stories don’t exactly do much to paint Africa as a heavy metal hotbed. But in Mozambique, where only 4% of the population has access to the Internet, there’s a budding metal scene that’s the focus of a new documentary called Terra Pesada. And it looks fascinating.
