FLAYED DISCIPLE WROTE A LOVE LETTER TO THE WESTBORO COUNTY CHURCH
Flayed Disciple’s new video, for the song “The Westboro Massacre,” isn’t an especially great clip — but I’m really digging it nonetheless. What I think it has going for it is a) a really, really solid Cannibal Corpse-style song (and please note that I intend this as praise — there are a lot of really, really shitty Cannibal Corpse-style songs in the world these days), and b) subject matter — The Westboro County Church — which gives its vitriol a sense of immediacy that many modern metal songs lack. Or, put another: this is a subject which is legitimately worth being angry about, so the song feels that much more sincere. I mean, I get that at the end of the day, the subject matter of a song’s lyrics don’t necessarily dicate the genuine nature, or lack thereof, of that lyrical content — but it certainly feels more real to have someone screaming about a bunch of religious zealot shitsippers and not, say, watching a girl suck some other dude’s dick.
“The Westboro Massacre” appears on Flayed Disciple’s Death Hammer, which is out now on Grindscene Records.
