FEAR, EMPTINESS, DECIBEL: CHECK OUT A SWEET RED FANG TOUR DOCUMENTARY!
Before there were blogs there were these things called magazines, and the only metal magazine we still get excited about reading every month is Decibel. Here’s managing editor Andrew Bonazelli…
People in touring bands are fucking nuts. Not telling you anything you don’t already know, but the mental, physical and financial burden of any sustained tour cycle is—well, to borrow from your favorite Chuck Klosterman book, it’s killing yourself to live. While tour diaries are occasionally an insightful summation of the monotony and catharsis, video affords you some killer tuneage to offset the droning about how “Peoria was cool, lots of kids showed up and had a good time, uh, we met our boy J-Dog for tacos, DURRRRRRRRR.”
Red Fang are as good a band as any for an exploration of the life-on-the-road grind. Most casual metalheads know them for their inspired, laff-riot concept videos, which makes it easy to forget that they’re workaholic, clock-punching road dogs like anyone else. So, long story short, we partnered with Converse for an exclusive new behind-the-scenes video series called “Converse X Decibel.” It’s all about examining what motivates these bands to do what they do in the face of so many familiar and unpredictable obstacles.
The inaugural installment doesn’t disappoint: Red Fang fly from Portland to Zurich, drive to Italy with Black Tusk (it’s RF’s first-ever European headlining tour), and from there it’s all clogged toilets, intra-van fart-smelling, drunken revelry and, oh yeah, some sick live footage. Plenty more good bands are lined up for this series. We’ll keep you posted, but for now, check out the debut.
