NACHTMYSTIUM’S SILENCING MACHINE: STREAM IT IN FULL RIGHT NOW
Is Silencing Machine a “return to form” of Nachtmystium’s tr00 “black metal” (as opposed to “black meddle”) past? Were the ever really tr00 in the first place? Who gives a fuck? Now’s your chance to hear all of Nachtmystium’s new album Silencing Machine in full. Spin’s got the stream, and we highly recommend you check it out right now.
Truth is, the more experimental elements of the two Black Meddle albums are what I found most endearing about Nachtmystium and what drew me to the band in the first place; if I wanted a traditional black metal album there are a million generic modern bands I could’ve turned to. Nachtmystium stood out. But while Silencing Machine is indeed less experimental and more traditional black metal, Nachtmystium have reached the point in their career where no matter what they do they just sound like themselves; they’ve got a true, unique artistic voice. Silencing Machine‘s tracks sooth my Nachtmystium itch even when they’re straight-ahead black metal bangers, making the instances that keyboard flourishes, sound effects and slower tempos punctuate the album welcome surprises. I agree with Kellhammer, who gave Silencing Machine the official MetalSucks review treatment: this album isn’t necessarily the Nachtmystium I adore the most, but by no means is it bad or anywhere close.
Give it a spin at Spin (ha), then come back here and tell us what you think. The album is out tomorrow on Century Media.
