BRING ME THE HORIZON ARE A MAJOR LABEL BAND NOW
Wowee wow wow: I guess Bring Me the Horizon are even more popular than I thought they were. After previously releasing albums with independent labels Visible Noise, Epitaph, and Earache, Bring Me the Horizon have signed with RCA. That means that their label mates now include the Foo Fighters, Alicia Keys, T-Pain, Kings of Leon, and Usher. (Side note: Did you know that Usher is still alive?)
Even though I’m not a BMTH fan, it’s always interesting to see a metal band sign with a major label, because it’s such a hit and miss proposition. Albert Mudrian’s great read, Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore, has a whole section on the experience bands like Carcass and Entombed had on major labels in the 90s, but even just looking at more recent years… for every Lamb of God that thrives on a major label, there’s a Shadows Fall that does not.
Unfortunately, given both BMTH’s somewhat more mainstream-ish Tiger Beat appeal and the fact that there is no God, I wouldn’t be all that shocked to see them do well on RCA. So a year from now, this band could be ten times as irritating as they always are. Three cheers for life.
