JAR’D LOOSE: F*CK DO WE CALL THIS, ANYWAY?
Earlier this week, our partners-in-crime at Metal Injection debuted “Coming Like a Nightmare,” the new video for a band with whom I was previously unfamiliar, Jar’d Loose. And while the video itself isn’t especially enthralling, I do really dig the song. Musically, it’s not even metal really — it’s punk. But there’s no denying that the vocals are totally metal.
Consequently, I have almost no idea what ridiculous subgenre classification to apply to Jar’d Loose. My gut is to call them “metalcore” in the truest sense of that word (see: Converge, Shai Hulud, etc.), but, really, the music is so much more punk than it is hardcore that to categorize Jar’d Loose that way seems reductive.
Check out the video for “Coming Like a Nightmare” below and then tell me what you’d call them in the comments section below. (“Crap!” cackles a smart-ass for an audience of one.) The song appears on the band’s debut album, Goes to Purgatory, which is out now on Cassette Deck Media.
