SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY: JULY 17, 2012 NSFW
Happy Tuesday dear MetalSucks readers! Say, have u ever wondered about that Thin Lizzy jam called “Jailbreak”? It appears on their 1976 album uh Jailbreak and its first line is, “Tonight there’s gonna be a jailbreak/Somewhere in this town.” That’s weird, the part about “somewhere in this town.” I mean, can we not anticipate precisely where the jailbreak will occur? Most people upon hearing of an imminent jailbreak would conclude that it will take place right at the town jail. So what’s up with that lyric? Is its weirdness the result of a last-minute change from “Jailbait”? Or maybe from “Gang Bang”? A dude can wonder. Oh well never mind that shit — here is this week’s Shit That Comes Out Today, powered by Baroness, Enabler, EAPZ, like six pairs of illustrated booberz, and tons more!

Baroness
Yellow & Green (Relapse)
On a playlist with: He Is Legend’s It Hates You, Torche, Memfis
Listen Yellow & Green full stream (here)
The first thing to know about Yellow & Green is that, as its title’s ampersand implies, the third Baroness album is um two albums (about 40 minutes each). Next, you should be aware that Y&G is 2012’s second masterpiece of fuzzy, hooky rock, and a more panting, dire, expansive companion to its first, Torche’s Harmonicraft. Finally, resign yourself to Y&G‘s near-total aversion to heaviness, its priorities mood and melody, and its unhesitant steps down paths trod by ex-shouters like Mastodon and Opeth. U okay with all that? Okay great now jam! U love!

The Contortionist
Intrinsic (eOne/Good Fight)
On a playlist with: Tesseract, Porcupine Tree, Periphery
Listen Intrinsic full stream (here)
If you made barf noises upon scanning the On a playlist with text above, that’s understandable. That is, you may scorn prog-metal and its accompanying pomp, aimlessness, and snooty wordplay; or it might simply be that your prog-friendly ears need a vacation from noodly epics and indecipherable rhythms. Again, no one could blame you in either case. And yet, if a trusted bud asked you to really bear down and give a fair shot to The Contortionist’s Intrinsic, you totally would. So here, we’ll save your bud the trouble: Set aside some time for Intrinsic. It’s killer.

Deathronation
Exorchrism (MetalHit.com)
On a playlist with: The Crown, early Death, Immolation
Listen “Beg For Your God” (here), “One Once Forsaken” (here)
A round of applause for Germany’s Deathronation — they pulled a fast one on me. See, I was all immersed in trying to discern the meaning of “Deathronation” and their new album’s title, Exorchrism. Do they mean that to dethrone then kill a dude = Deathronation? Or maybe: A country of imminent demise = Death Throe Nation = Deathronation? Huh. Anyway, once I gave up on that, I had already listened to two Exorchrism jamz and gotten hooked on their rugged old-school death metal rippage. Man what a sucker! (Also includes A Soil Foresaken demo.)

Enabler
All Hail The Void (Southern Lord)
On a playlist with: Sepultura’s Against, Goatwhore, Impatience
Listen All Hail The Void full stream (here)
We hope you are a daily reader of MetalSucks cuz we’re the best, but also cuz it would mean that you’ve read like twice already about the awesomeness of Milwaukee’s Enabler (here and here), a buzz band at this year’s South By Southwest festival and the living proof that members of Misery Signals and The Fallout Boys can do good. Or maybe it’s that even they can’t retard the staggering, blitzing crustcore jamz of Enabler frontman Jeff Lohrber (Harlots, Shai Hulud). Ugh sorry that last sentence is praise wrapped in two put-downs. It’s called a Milwaukee Compliment. Sorry Lohrber luv u!

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo
Tree Of Tongues (Mediaskare)
On a playlist with: Dillinger Escape Plan, Deftones, Between The Buried And Me
Listen “Through The Thicket … Across Endless Mountains” (here), “Apis Bull” (here)
I get super-bummed at sweaty summer barbecues when my dessert dishes go untouched. Sigh, it makes sense though: Priority for yard-partyers is beer and blather, and sweets don’t go well with either. That doesn’t stop me from bringing them and pleasing the minority who require post-bongload fruit fluff or apple churros or candy salad. And thusly I feel a spiritual connection to bands like Exotic Animal Petting Zoo, who likewise expect their audience to take the bitter and savory (screaming, monster riffs) with the sweet and gooey (lovely melodies, shimmery guitar solos). It’s a losing battle, but one we must fight!

The Howling Wind
Of Babalon (Profound Lore)
On a playlist with: Unearthly Trance, Triptykon, Darkthrone
Listen Of Babalon full stream (here)
According to the world’s sharpest record reviewer, New York black metal duo The Howling Wind’s “burly, mid-paced take on [black metal doesn’t] sacrifice heart or history … [and] despite being associated with America’s most vibrant metropolis, they can still trade blows with their most grim and isolated peers.” So yeah, The Howling Wind doesn’t play ahem “black metal” from a safe distance and with ass-covering adornments. Just pure black metal for real. U jam now.
