NOW THERE’S A PETITION TO GET THE WHITE HOUSE TO HELP RANDY BLYTHE
Randy Blythe has now been in a Czech prison for over a week, and I’m sure he’s (rightfully) freaking out. So hopefully word is getting back to him about all the support he’s getting from his fans and the metal community at large, and hopefully that’s at least providing him some small modicum of comfort.
The latest attempt to help out metal’s Alcamenes comes in the form of this fan-started petition to enlist the aid of the White House in freeing Blythe. The accompanying statement reads as follows:
“This petition is so it can be brought to the attention of the white house that one of our citizens is in need of help. His name is D. Randall Blythe. He was doing what he loves to do bring his music along with the rest of the band LAMB OF GOD. During one of the dates he was taken into custody in Prague and was extorted for money after posting bail he was not released which is a direct violation of his civil rights. This petition will show that the people of the united states will not stand for this outrage and hope you and the us state department will do something about this travesty.”
As of this writing, 332 people have signed the petition; the goal is to get 25k signatures by August 3, although I’m not clear why that number is the goal (Was it just a randomly selected number, or at that point, is the White House, like, obligated to intervene?). I can’t really imagine the White House getting involved, not least of all because, surely, left-wing pundits would freak out (“The band is called what? And his lyrics are about WHAT?!!”). But it can’t hurt to sign the petition.
