THE SHOCKWAVE FESTIVAL HAS BEEN CANCELED
UPDATE, 4:08pm EDT: An official statement from the organizers of the Shockwave Festival has been released and reads as follows:
“It is with great disappointment that we have to make this announcement. With the recent departure of Voivod from the Shockwave Festival lineup. As well as low advance ticket sales we have decided to pull the plug on the Shockwave Festival.”
For purchases made with a credit card, your card will automatically be refunded. All other refunds are available at point of purchase.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
Original Post:
Ticketmaster is now sending emails offering refunds to those who purchased tickets for the Shockwave Festival, according to the Gauntlet.
Havok dropped off last night and Misery Index followed after Voivod, the bill’s second biggest band, quit the fest yesterday morning and four other bands quit two weeks ago.
The emails Ticketmaster is sending out to ticket buyers read as follows:
“We regret to inform that the Shockwave Tour scheduled for at [removed] has been cancelled. For purchases made with a credit card, your card will automatically be
refunded. All other refunds are available at point of purchase. We apologize for any inconvenience.“Please contact us at the number below with any questions or concerns.”
Fear Factory have apparently already started booking a new summer tour in place of Shockwave, with an August 15th date in New Jersey already on sale.
We haven’t gotten any official word as to why so many bands started dropping off in the first place, but we’d assume the only logical culprit: poor ticket sales.
