POWER OF THE RIFF FESTIVAL HEADS EAST (AND STAYS WEST!)

Last year’s Power of the Riff festival was a flash point for metal’s doom and hardcore sides; tales of Eyehategod, Trap Them, Pelican and Black Breath’s performances (and tons of others) during the 5-date West Coast trek still echo through NYC’s comparatively weak-riffed concert halls.

So this year Southern Lord has decided to make their fest bicoastal, with a super-stacked one-night lineup in Los Angeles on August 11th and an equally juiced two-day affair in Brooklyn a few weeks later, September 1st and 2nd.

Each coast has a completely different lineup, but both are pretty solid if you’re into these kinds of bands. In case you’re wondering, yes, the Brooklyn fest is Labor Day Weekend… which is probably gonna bum out a lot of New Yorkers and be bad for business (“Labor Day” is New Yorkese for “Get the fuck out of town for the weekend.”) But hey, we’ll see! More metal fests are never a bad thing. The lineups:
