MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN PERFORMS ACCEPT’S “BALLS TO THE WALL”
Accept’s “Balls to the Wall” wouldn’t exactly be on my short list of “Songs I’d expect Maynard James Keenan To Sing,” but that’s exactly what the Tool frontman did at Bonnaroo earlier this month.
OK, that’s slightly misleading; Maynard didn’t perform the ’80s metal classic with Tool — he did it with his lounge-music side project Puscifer (which I recently learned is pronounced “Pussy-fur,” not “Poo-sih-fur”) — but I don’t think that takes away from the novelty of the guy who wrote “Prison Sex” singing “Balls to the Wall.” Actually, when I phrase it that way…
Here’s the performance. It’s barely recognizable as “Balls to the Wall” until the chorus kicks in, but I think it’s cool that Puscifer really made this song their own.
