REMEMBER WHEN SKID ROW MADE A 3D MUSIC VIDEO?
In 1993, Skid Row released a home video (this was in the days of VHS) called Roadkill. I know that this video was on my Hanukkah gift wish list that year, and I know that my parents did, in fact, purchase it for me as such, and yet I remember almost nothing about it. I think there was some footage of the band goofing off in an airport, but that’s about it. In all fairness to me, I don’t think it was ever a very good video, and in the intervening nineteen years, I’ve killed more brain cells than Sebastian Bach ever possesed.
ANYWAY, what I mostly remember about the tape is that it began with a video for the Slave to the Grind-era song “Psycho Love,” which was in magical THHHHHHRRRRRRRRREEEEE-DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Which was, like, kind of a big deal at the time, because a) 3D movies were not as prevalent as they are now, and b) there was no such thing as 3D televisions. Roadkill even came with some Skid Row-branded 3D glasses.
What I didn’t remember, until this song inexplicably popped into my head this morning, was the actual content of the video itself (in other words, the only thing about it that I could recall was the gimmick). Looking at it now… yeah, I can see why I didn’t remember it. Still, a fun stroll down memory lane. The parts where they were obviously trying to take advantage of the 3D — like when Baz throws two fingers at the camera just as he yells the word “two,” in case you were confused about why he wasn’t holding up three fingers I guess — are the funniest.
