GOD FORBID “OVERCOME” CRAPPY PLAYTHROUGH VIDEOS
Addendum to yesterday’s poll about the appeal (or lack thereof) of “track-by-track breakdown” videos: what do you folks think of “playthrough” videos, in which one member of a band plays through a full song with closeups of their hands?
Playthrough videos seem much more useful, even if their target audience (musicians) is limited. The differences: 1) There is one specific target audience — and a big one at that — instead of this idea of nebulous superfans who supposedly want to eat everything up that a band does, 2) playthrough videos have lasting appeal and value to guitar players now and guitar players to come, whereas the track-by-track breakdown vids are designed to hype up an album’s release before the watcher has heard any music from it (after which the videos rot in the bowels of YouTube).
ANYWAY, here’s a playthrough video of God Forbid’s song “Overcome” from their new album Equilibrium (order here). I especially like this one because of the split screen effect; it’s fun to see which guitarist plays which part and how they intermingle with one another.
