THE ALBUM ART FOR NACHTMYSTIUM’S SILENCING MACHINE TELLS YOU WHERE THE BAND IS HEADING
There’s a strong contrast in the style of the cover art for Nachtmystium’s upcoming Silencing Machine and that for the band’s last two albums, the experimental-enough-to-drive-tight-asses-mad Assassins: Black Meddle, Part 1 and Addicts: Black Meddle, Part II. The Silencing Machine art is, to put it simply, a lot more lo-fi and raw — it looks like something that might be on the cover of some obscure European black metal band’s album, or maybe even just a demo. There’s a reason for that: Silencing Machine sees the band moving away from the Assassins sound and returning to a more unadulterated BM sound. I’ll be curious to see if everyone who bellyached about the Black Meddle albums now starts bitching that the band has taken a step backwards.
I actually think this looks pretty cool, except the for the uber-cliché font of the album title. Whatever the fuck that font is called (I’m sure font nerds like Vince can identify it by sight, but I’m too lazy to Google it), it needs to be retired.
Silencing Machine comes out July 31 on Century.
