NEW PERIPHERY ALBUM ARRIVES JULY 3 WITH A GUEST SOLO FROM DREAM THEATER’S JOHN PETRUCCI
The above photo is of a magazine ad (I’m not sure from which magazine — more on that in a second) for the new Periphery album, and while it doesn’t tell us what said album will be called, it does supply us with two other very exciting pieces of information — namely, that the album will be out July 3, and that Dream Theater’s John Petrucci will supply a guest guitar solo on the record, much as Jeff Loomis did on the band’s last release.
In any case, Periphery vocalist Spencer Sotelo is apparently not happy that this info is now out there. From his Formspring:
“Bad planning on somebody’s end. We were just as surprised as anyone else when we saw that revolver had put the release date out there when no official announcement has been made.”
Sotelo’s comment confuses me a little, since a response implies that the photo was taken from Guitar World, but Sotelo’s remark suggests it was taken from Revolver. I recognize it’s entirely possible the ad appears in both magazines. But still, it wouldn’t be Revolver‘s fault if the release date got out before there was an official announcement — after all, Revolver, like any publication, just runs the ad the label pays for. So if anyone is guilty of “bad planning,” isn’t it someone at Sumerian?
Whatever. Shit happens, and every metal fan in the world is gonna wanna hear the new Periphery album anyway. So start counting down the days to July 3.
Periphery will be a part of this year’s Summer Slaughter tour, along with Cannibal Corpse, Between the Buried and Me, The Faceless, Veil of Maya, Job for a Cowboy, Goatwhore, Exhumed, and Cerebral Bore; get dates here.
