NEW MUSIC ROUND-UP: NE OBLIVISCARIS, AHAB, MNEMIC
Ne Obliviscaris made headlines last year when their guitarist was deported from his residence with the band in Australia back to his home country of France. But the band quickly proved why so many people throughout the worldwide metal community flocked to back them up in their time of need; they released a new song last October to celebrate the return of guitarist Benjamin Baret from exile, and that song positively bowled us over. It’s epic and orchestrally arranged, like all the best parts of Opeth, Unleashed and Hung rolled into one. Now that the release of their very long-awaited new album Portal of I is now just four days away (that’s May 7, if you can’t count. pre-order) the band has released a second new song from that album called “Xenoflux.” Stream it below, via No Clean Singing.
For today’s fix of new doom, I once again turn to the like-minded scribe from No Clean Singing known as Islander: “Doom is still a taste I am slowly acquiring, and I can’t say that I’m yet able to consume it in large quantities at a single sitting. However, at the right time and if properly prepared, I do find it tasty.” My sentiments EXACTLY. Thankfully Ahab’s new track “The Giant,” from their forthcoming album of the same name, definitely comes at the right time, I’m properly prepared (it’s early in the day and my ears are still fresh) and I find it scrumptiously delicious.
Lastly, today brings a new song from Danish industrio-melodeathsters Mnemic’s new album Mnemesis (June 8th, Nuclear Blast). “I’ve Been You” is pretty much classic Mnemic; industrial-tinged, Fear Factory-esque atmospherics underneath a heavier, Swedish-sounding guitar attack and Guillaume Bideau’s stressed but smooth voice. Mnemic fans will probably like this song a lot, but I can’t imagine it’s gonna do much to turn any former haters into lovers. Stream:
