“PISS”: BATHE IN PANTERA’S NEW GOLDEN SHOWER

As previously reported, Pantera debuted a new-old song, “Piss,” and a new-new video for that song, at last night’s Revolver Golden Gods Awards (read Anso DF’s account of the event here). You can watch the video below. It’s actually pretty good — the band delt with the whole pesky “We don’t exist anymore” issue by centering the clip around the fans, and the results are entertaining enough to work (I’m especially fond of the part where some dudes throw their friend through a wall). But the real star, obviously, is the song. Recorded during the Vulgar Display of Power sessions but only now being released, “Piss” is the first new (or “new,” I guess) Pantera song to be released since the band broke-up in 2003, and unless there’s a bunch more unreleased b-sides sitting around Vinnie Paul’s vaults, it may be the last new Pantera song we ever get.

Luckily, it’s not disappointing. It sounds like exactly what it is — a song made around the same time as Vulgar that wasn’t quite good enough to make the cut for that album. Which makes it only about a bajillion times better than anything ever released by almost any band in the years since Pantera called it quits. Hell, I’d put money on there people who like it better than the entirety of Reinventing the Steel.

Pantera’s “Piss” is available now. Download it for a buck here.
