FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE: ROCKIT! BELLY DANCE’S LADIES GYRATE TO HARD ROCK + METAL
A reader recently sent us the below video, in which a group of women belly dance to Down’s “Stained Glass Cross.”
Needless to say, I was intrigued. Usually when someone sends us a video like this, it’s not real — someone took a metal song and laid it over a video of girls doing some dance you wouldn’t normally associate with metal.
So I did some research (and by “did some research,” I mean clicked the little link on YouTube) and it turns out that this was a rehearsal for RockIt! Belly Dance, an UK dance troupe that “combines the best of what belly dance, burlesque and street dance have to offer,” all to a soundtrack of hard rock and heavy metal. Here are some more videos, of RockIt! in full regalia (not just rehearsing or whatever), dancing to Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, and Clutch:
RockIt! Belly Dance’s website doesn’t seem to be working right now, but you can watch more videos — including dances set to songs by Guns N’ Roses, System of a Down, Type O Negative, and, uh, Coal Chamber — right here. Three cheers for women who found a way to get their groove on to metal songs without resorting to looking at Vince Neil’s fly.
