DYING FETUS: YOU SHOULD HAPPILY SUBJECT YOURSELF TO THIS BEATING

Although we’ve already heard a live version of a new song called “Invert the Idols,” “Subjected to a Beating” (below) is the first officially-released music from Dying Fetus’ forthcoming Reign Supreme. And I think it was really brave of Dying Fetus to release a power ballad like this as the album’s first single, because it’s unusual to hear this band make something so pretty. They even invited their former bassist/vocalist Jason Netheron (now of Misery Index fame) to join in, giving the whole thing an Ozzy/Lita “Close My Eyes Forever” quality. The song isn’t technically NSFW, but I do suggest you don’t listen to it in public — all this raw sentiment make even the manliest of men tear up a little.

Reign Supreme comes out June 19 via Relapse. The band is currently part of the Metal Alliance tour along with DevilDriver, The Faceless,  Job For A Cowboy, 3 Inches of Blood, and Impending Doom; you can get remaining dates here.
