“BACK WHERE WE BELONG”: DEVIN TOWNSEND DEBUTS AN EPICLOUD SONG
The interhole’s been a buzzin’ about Epicloud for months already, and today we finally get a taste of what the album Devin Townsend describes as full of “epic, poppy, porgy, ‘Dev Leppard’ type things” sounds like.
Devin performed a new song called “Back Where We Belong” acoustically this past Saturday in Ottawa, Canada as part of this year’s Junofest, and even though this is just an acoustic version of a song that will presumably be fully electric, you can get a pretty good idea of what the character of this song (and by extension, maybe this album) will be like. As I’m listening to this acoustic rendition I can basically already hear what this is going to sound like in full band form, and it sounds absolutely EPIC. It kind of reminds me of “Supercrush” in its grandiosity, triumphal feeling and instant catchiness, and there’s plenty of space for Devin’s stellar, underrated voice to shine. I think his voice is actually what makes this song… I have the vocal melody stuck in my head after just one listen!
