GET READY FOR A NEW SLAYER EP
Dave Lombardo (the twenty-first best drummer in modern metal… wait, that can’t be right, can it?), just did an interview with The Nervous Breakdown, in which he reveals that Slayer have nine completed songs written for their new album. And that’s really just like one or two or maybe even three songs away from having a complete record, but Slayer aren’t waiting ’til then to unleash new music upon the world. When asked about a possible release time frame for this latest offering, Lombardo responds:
“I don’t know, but we’re going to do a three or four-song EP to keep the fans pacified until we come out with the full-length record. Kind of like what we did with ‘Psycopathy Red,’ which was like a two-song 45.”
If they’re really following the general game plan of that “Psychopathy Red” 45, then we can assume that whichever songs end up on the EP will eventually also be on the LP. So, maybe not quite as exciting as getting two wholly-new Slayer releases, but that’s still pretty much a First World Problem, y’know?
There’s no word on a release date, but Rob at Metal Injection surmises that it will be released in conjunction with the band’s appearance on the Mayhem Fest this year (dates). That seems like a reasonable assumption. So we could end up with new Slayer before the end of the summer!
