“FLOODS OF COLOUR”: THE SAFETY FIRE ARE TRIPPING BALLS
The Safety Fire’s new video, “Floods of Colour,” is a fairly simple and lo-tech affair… but it’s still really, really entertaining. It’s a silly conceit that we’ve seen done before, but the whole thing reeks of genuine enthusiasm — by which I mean it seems like everyone involved in its creation was having a lot of fun, and that vibe translates.
And I hereby draw two conclusions from this video —
- The Saftey Fire are funny motherfuckers. The “Colour” clip is the second piece of evidence in as many weeks to confirm this.
- I hereby amend my theory that bands should no longer be in music videos. They can be in the videos… they just can’t be performing in those videos (see also: As I Lay Dying’s video for “Anodyne Sea” and every Red Fang video).
“Floods of Colour” comes off the band’s new album, Grind the Ocean (review), which comes out April 10. The Safety Fire are currently part of a MetalSucks-sponsored tour along with Protest the Hero, Periphery, Jeff Loomis, and Today I Caught the Plague. Get dates here.
