AND YOU THOUGHT YOUR MOM WAS NUTS
A little while back, our buddy Miikka Skaffari shot some photos of a group called Logistic Slaughter for us, but beyond that, I wasn’t really familiar with the band. I’ve just listened to them for the first time and they’re actually a totally solid death metal outfit (listen for yourself here). So I now feel twice as terrible about the contents of the below video, in which one of the guitar players — I’m not sure if it’s Mike Flory or Mike Ashton or someone else not listed on their Facebook page — gets absolutely reamed by his mother, all because of his love of music. Seriously — her opening line is, “May I ask in what way your life is contributing to society as you sit here day after day after day in this dark room, stringing along on that stupid guitar?”
Part of me thinks that this woman’s rant may be a really, really misguided attempt to express fear for the security of her son’s future — after all, it’s no secret that making your living as a musician is pretty close to impossible, and even very well-known bands often struggle to make ends meet. But like I said, if that’s what she’s attempting to convey, well, writing off music as a “worthless life” altogether is just… holy shit, never mind how unsupportive that is, but isn’t it also such a terrible message to send to a kid?
To the dude’s credit, he seems to handle it like a real mensch — I have to imagine that if this had happened to me when I was his age, I would have flown off the rails and started screaming right back. But no, this fella even has a sense of humor about the thing. For example, note how he tagged the video when he uploaded it to YouTube:
Also I know I’m getting a little off-topic here, but while we’re discussing this video’s YouTube page, I need to point out this hilarious comment someone left, too:
Anyway, I don’t really know what else to say other than… sheesh. My heart goes out to this dude in a big way. Hang in there, man.
Make sure you check out Logistic Slaughter.
