AUTHOR AND PUNISHER REDEFINE WHAT IT MEANS TO PLAY “METAL”
In January we told you about Author and Punisher, a former engineering and robotics student who channeled his love of metal (the music) into unique, custom-built instruments made out of metal (the material). The results are a clusterfuck of doom, electronic and dub, and I do mean “clusterfuck” in the best possible way. As Author and Punisher only-man Tristan Shone points out in a recent interview with American Aftermath, Author and Punisher kind of sounds like Godflesh meets Sepultura, with dark, nasty dub thrown in for extra grit.
You’ve kind of got to see Tristan Shone in action with his gear before listening to any of his music or else you won’t quite understand the full picture. Check out a video interview with some performance footage here, and skip to around 2:30 to get a lay of the land.
Then check out “Flesh Ants” below and “Terrorbird” over at Decibel. And tell us what you think. Ursus Americanus is due out via Seventh Rule Recordings on April 24.
