AND THE CANDIDATES TO OPEN SUMMER SLAUGHTER 2012 ARE…
The complete line-up for this year’s Summer Slaughter hasn’t even officially been announced yet. But the bands that have been announced — Cannibal Corpse, Between the Buried and Me, The Faceless, Exhumed, Goatwhore, and Veil of Maya — are all so good as to suggest that the fest’s organizers may have put together a perfect line-up this year. Which is pretty much unheard for a package tour of this size! There’s usually at least two or three Oceanos that manage to sneak onto the bill.
Now, as they do every year, the organizers of Summer Slaughter are allowing fans to vote for which band from a list of ten nominees will open the show. And while you might think that would be a good opportunity for some truly awful act to sneak onto the bill, it actually seems highly unlikely that that will happen.
Here’s the full list of potential bands:
Aegaeon
Battlecross
Cerebral Bore
Enfold Darkness
Fallujah
Fit for an Autopsy
Hour of Penance
I Declare War
Pathology
Vildjharta
So, yeah, some of these bands are definitely better than others, but I don’t think that any of the bad or even mediocre bands stand a shot at winning. I think Summer Slaughter tends to skew a little younger, in which case, I’d guess, Vildjharta will win, ’cause they’re really big with the social networking crowd. Ditto Cerebral Bore, although I don’t think they’re as popular at this point. But Pathology have been around for a long time and have a substantial following, too. I dunno, it just seems like the odds that I Declare War end up on this bill are pretty slim.
If you’re asking my personal preference — and you’re reading my stupid website, so I assume that you are — I’d probably vote for Fit for an Autopsy. They’re a really good band, they’re really fun live, they’re a perfect fit for the tour, and they could really use the exposure. But like I said, I think any realistic worst-case scenario here is still pretty good.
You can here. And, of course, feel free to argue about who you think should win in the comments section below.
