16’s NEW TRACK AIN’T NO “LITTLE ACCIDENT”

Blues-sludge purveyors 16 have a new album called Deep Cuts From Dark Clouds coming on April 24th via Relapse Records, less than two months away, so it goes without saying that the band will be releasing a few album tracks in the coming weeks to let us all know what they’ve got in store come the end of April. Judging by “Her Little ‘Accident’,” the first song from the album to be released, what they’ve got in store is a doozy.

16 have been on a roll since reuniting in 2007. Bridges to Burn, released in 2009, was a fiery brew of swampy, blues-tinged sludge, the kind of music that would be equally appropriate for a backyard barbecue, a long West Texas drive or a bloody, bare-knuckles fight. If “Her Little ‘Accident’” is any indication, Deep Cuts From Dark Clouds is going to be more of the same, maybe even more so; I’m a big fan of the noticeably sharper, clearer and beefier production this track offers as compared to the slightly more raw and loose feel of Bridges.
