TAPROOT’S NEW SONG “NO SURRENDER” IS TAPROOT AT THEIR BEST

I’ve got a big soft spot for Taproot, a band I’ve written about in this space since the very early days of MetalSucks. I’ll never know if my love for this band everyone else thinks is mediocre is based on hometown bias (I lived in Ann Arbor, MI for 5 years) because, well… I did, and there’s no way to go back in time, move me to a different city, and find out definitively. But it’s all good, ’cause I love Taproot and I’m happy with it! Blue Sky Research still stands as a favorite go-to album I’ll pop in if I’m in the right mood.

Taproot will become two albums deep into their Victory Records era when they release The Episodes in April. The album’s first single, “No Surrender,” continues in the less heavy, more alt-rock direction they’ve gone over their last several records, which is fine with me; I’m one of the few fans who doesn’t really like their early stuff much at all. These guys are way better at writing catchy radio rock songs than they ever were trying to be nu-metal tough guys. It’s all about Stephen Richards’ beautiful voice and harmonies anyway, and they shine in this format.
