LEAST SHOCKING NEWS OF THE DAY: SUFFOCATION CONFIRM SPLIT WITH MIKE SMITH

So last week drummer Mike Smith released a statement in which he said some fairly hostile things about Suffocation, including that his bandmates had a “lack of pride,” and that “Within any foundation the weakest link will always cause all structure to crumble.” Which every logical person in the world assumed meant that Smith was leaving the band.

Well, hey, guess what? In a new interview with HitKiller.com, the band says that, yeah, Smith isn’t their drummer anymore. The split was apparently due to “serious differences of opinions,” which is vague, but it is clear that Smith quit and was not fired.

The silver lining — besides the fact that new-old drummer Dave Culross is no slouch behind the kit, I mean — is that the band is in pre-production on their new album, which they hope to have out by the fall. So at least there’s new Suffo on the horizon.
