DE LA CRUZ: THE BEST DEF LEPPARD SONGS DEF LEPPARD NEVER WROTE
With Def Leppard’s recently announced blockbuster summer tour making headlines, now seems as good a time as any to write about De La Cruz, a band that sounds so much like Def Leppard that they may as well BE the might Lep. I know what you’re thinking: the world needs another Steel Panther or The Darkness like it needs a Fred Durst solo album. But fear not: there’s not a trace of irony in De La Cruz’s music. This band is the result of a bunch of dudes who clearly listened to nothing but Pyromania and Hysteria in their youths… and best of all, this isn’t just a bunch of old dads in their garage trying to re-live their glory days: the band members are all under 25!
All the elements are here: the tension-building pre-choruses leading to anthemic choruses, harmonized gang vocals, twin guitarmonies, that big gated snare drum… ya know, Def Leppard. And good God, those vocals on the 4th track, “Back To the ’80s” are a deadringer for Joe Elliott. Stream their entire 2011 debut album below (via Bandcamp):
