AND SUDDENLY I FOUND MYSELF WRITING ABOUT TRIXTER
Even as a hair metal fan, I was never really into Trixter’s music. That being said, I will always hold a special spot for them in my heart, because they made what is arguably the single funniest music video in the history of the medium. I don’t mean metal videos, either — I mean they made the one actual funniest music video of all time. It was called “Give It To Me Good,”and there is not a single frame of it which isn’t comedy gold. If the Saturday Nighy Live “Schmitt’s Gay” commercial parody was a 100% unironic music video, it would be “Give It To Me Good.” It is a video in which a bunch of dudes in pastel colors do cartwheels through an empty feel for no reason other than how the fuck else do you sell a rock record?
[NOTE: Actually that might be a chick in the pink, but I can’t really tell for sure, on account of the fact that many of the dudes are also wearing tummy tees.]
I mean really how does something like this happen? Does the director say “Hey dude lie flat on your tummy and sing into the camera while we empty this hot tub in the back of that truck?” and the singer is just like “Yeah okay I mean it’s not like he’s filming it or anything?”
ANYWAY, I mention this band now because they have apparently signed to Frontiers Records and are making a new album. And when reading the press release making this announcement, I found out they’re from Paramus, and actually this video almost makes sense now. Dudes in pastels are just doing gymnastics all the time in fuckin’ Paramus.
And, really, I could care less about the music on the record — but I would like to take this chance to publicly challenge the band to make a video as good as “Give It To Me Good.” One that the Nirvana to MetalSucks’ Winger can write about in twenty years and be like “Holy shit, remember this?” And all the kids who are really stoked on the Chimaira tour reuniting the original line-up can be like, “What is this stoned asshole blabbering on about?”
‘Cause if Trixter can do that, they will truly be legendary.
Here’s the whole video if you wanna see it or whatever:
