Krisiun the great execution

One of the many beauties of the Internet (besides pr0n, of course) is its ability connect musicians to fans the world over without pesky things like gigantic oceans getting in the way like they used to. This is not to say that we only ever used to listen to bands in our home countries, but it sure is a lot easier to discover new music from a far away land than it used to be. Let’s check out brand new music from Livarkahil (France), Krisiun (Brazil) and Archaios (Dominican Republic) after the jump.

Seemingly every day I open my inbox to a new French metal band that’s absolutely killing it. Oftentimes when a band breaks out from the pack the ensuing explosion is full of watered-down followers, but with regards to French metal in the post-Gojira boom that’s just not the case. Axl was just singing the praises of Necroblaspheme the other week (and then again), and here come Livarkahil with their new album Signs Of Decay, set to be released by Gojira’s old label Listenable on September 26th. Never heard of ’em before, but this tune impales all sorts of aardvark babies:

When people think of metal in Brazil they usually default to Sepultura, but death metallers Krisiun have been around for nearly as long. Krisiun’s new album The Great Execution comes out on November 1st via long-time label Century Media, and they’ve posted a new song called “The Will to Potency” over at Guitar World. I’m not intimately familiar with Krisiun’s catalogue so I’m not really in a position to judge how this new stuff stacks up against their old material, but I can definitively say this: it’s good!

When I went to the Dominican Republic nearly three years ago I didn’t see a trace of metal. Not so much as even one Iron Maiden or Metallica shirt. Just because I didn’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, of course, but that surely counts for something; metal can’t be very big there. Dominican metallers Archaios, billed in a press release as the DR’s “premiere extreme metal act,” shred in the face of that adversity; it can’t be easy playing metal on an island, both figuratively and literally. Theirs is a brand of metal that mixes touchstones of death, thrash, prog and epic metal into a product that surely stands out in their home country. With Dark Canvas Records taking a gamble on the first Dominican metal recording to be released internationally by a North American record label, will their success translate in the U.S.? The Distant comes out on November 11th. You be the judge:
