ANYONE WANNA BE FORBIDDEN’S NEW DRUMMER?
Legendary thrashers Forbidden parted ways with drummer Mark Hernandez last week, a happening we failed to report upon because, Jesus Holy Christ, there’s basically two of us and it’s just not feasible that we’re going to be able to write about everything that happens ever, especially given that this entire site is editorials, which actually take some time to write, as opposed to, say, just cutting and pasting press releases.
ANYWAY, Forbidden. Down a drummer. They’re snagged some dude named Gene Hoglan to fill-in for a few dates — namely, the upcoming Alcatraz Festival in Belgium and the ProgPower Festival in Atlanta — but, of course, they’re going to need a permanent replacement. And thus, the band has decided to scour the land so full of undiscovered and unappreciated talent: the internet.
Here are the details, direct from the mouth of guitarist Craig Locicero:
“We want the right player so we’ve decided to set up a YouTube channel specifically for the truest contenders. A place just for those serious enough to show the band and the world your skills playing FORBIDDEN songs. Send a video of yourself bashing out ‘Forsaken At The Gates,’ ‘Infinite,’ and another FORBIDDEN song of your choice. We will look at all of the videos objectively and decide who goes to the next level. At that next point, chemistry becomes everything. First we need to get past 1st base before sliding home.”
That may sound kinda nutty, but it shouldn’t — lest we forget, Erik Rutan discovered drummer Jade Simonetto via MySpace, and not only is Simonetto a killer drummer, but he’s been with Hate Eternal for two albums now. In other words, there is really nothing nutty about this idea. In fact, I think it’s pretty great.
Interested parties should send a Dropbox, Fileblaze, or Mediablaze download link to forbiddendrummer2011 AT gmail DOT com. Please note that, according to the press release, “By sending in your submission, you are granting your consent to having your video file uploaded onto the FORBIDDEN Drummer 2011 YouTube channel and other social media sites for comments.”
And hopefully some lucky fan who’s just been waiting for his big break will be the new drummer in Forbidden real soon.
