AND THE OTHER GUESTS ON THE NEW GOJIRA EP ARE…
Everyone whose parents raised them correctly loves Gojira, and so everyone whose parents raised them correctly has been eagerly anticipating the band’s seemingly-forever-in-gestation Sea Shepherd EP since, well, seemingly forever.
But now it looks like we might actually be getting close to its unveiling! Last week we got to hear a new song, “Of Blood and Salt,” which features guest appearances from Meshuggah’s Fredrik Thordendal and Devin Townsend’s Devin Townsend; now Gojira’s guitarist/vocalist/mastermind, Joe Duplantier, has given an interview with Metal Hammer in which he reveals that Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe (who previously appeared on the group’s “Adoration for None”), In Flames’ Anders Friden, and some dude named Max Cavalera are all going to appear on the release, too.
And this has to be, like, the smartest marketing ploy ever. The proceeds made by the EP are going to a good cause — anti-whaling organization Sea Shepherd (duh) — and not only does the participation of some of metal’s heaviest hitters ensure that Gojira fans will be that much more excited for its release, but it ensures that a lot of new fans will be aware of the album, too. That not only means more admirers for Gojira will almost certainly be made (and if it were up to me, Gojirism would be a fucking religion with tax benefits and everything), but it means more money for Sea Shepherd, too. Smart smart smart smart smart.
There’s still no release date for this puppy, but if you read the entire of the Metal Hammer interview, Joejira discusses these matters in further detail, and teases the new Gojira full-length, so you can start getting all worked up about that not-even-wholly-written-yet offering, too. And, lest ye forget, Monsieur Duplantier also makes a guest appearance on The Devin Townsend Project’s Deconstruction, which comes out June 21 on InsideOut.
