NO THOUGHTS OF LOSING DREDG

There’s been lotsa speculation following Dredg’s claim that new album Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy would be a big departure from the band’s past. And now that there’s finally a new song for us to hear, the verdict is……

It sounds like Dredg! That could be producer Dan the Automator’s influence in that sorta electro-fried drum beat, and I suppose any OG Dredg fan-boy who only loved Leitmotif and nothing since would view that as sacrilege… but come on. “The Thought of Losing You” is haunting and it’s beautiful, in Dredg’s own way. Most importantly, it’s really good.

I’d say the band’s description of the new album as “dark pop” holds up, at least with this one song. I’d also say tales of a musical departure are greatly overblown, but again, I’ve only heard one song. Bring on the rest.
