NEILSTEIN SOUNDSCAM: BREAKDOWNS AND FLAT-BRIMMED CAPS STILL SELL ALBUMS… AND, UH, SO DOES MR. BIG (AGAIN!)
If you don’t understand what that headline is a reference to, you’ve probably got the intelligence of the average fan of said band. And you probably believe in real-life transformers, characters from Street Fighter and the planet Nibiru.
Elsewhere, Deicide had a solid first week while Motorhead and Crowbar had solid second weeks on the Soundscan charts. Let’s check those out and see what else was poppin’.
4 EMMURE – SPEAKER OF THE DEAD
Last week: 10,363 (debut)
Kids love breakdowns. Fact. Kids also loved Limp Bizkit over a decade ago. Also fact.
5 REV THEORY – JUSTICE
Last week: 9,331 (debut)
I’m pretty sure this band is one of those Red State / Flyover Rock bands that does gangbusters in places like Allen Park, Michigan.
13 STRYPER – COVERING
Last week: 4,552 (debut)
Um… what?
17 MOTORHEAD – WORLD IS YOURS
Last week: 3,909
Cume: 11,023
With “only” a 44% drop from Week 1, this record is actually doing a lot better than most in its second week on the charts.
47 DEICIDE – TO HELL WITH GOD
Last week: 2,200 (debut)
Death metal for the win!
75 MR. BIG – WHAT IF…
Last week: 1,534
Cume: 2,686
Last week a reader going under “maketheeffort!” commented thusly about this Mr. Big record: “it was reported last week that their North American street date was bumped (ahead) to 2/15, which presumably means that this week’s [now last week’s. -Ed.] sales # is only digital — which makes the # pretty impressive.” And that seems to be exactly what happened; because of that, Mr. Big are the rare band that actually sold more units in their second week than in their first. Mr. fucking Big!
90 POISON – 10 GREAT SONGS
Last week: 1,285 (debut)
See Stryper, above.
96 CROWBAR – SEVER THE WICKED HAND
Last week: 1,199
Cume: 4,919
Turns out last week’s 3,526 units shifted marked the band’s biggest debut ever; congrats! Looks like things are continuing on the right path for Crowbar.
