SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY — 2.01.2011 EDITION
Today sees the release of Abysmal Dawn’s first new album in more than two years, and Full Blown Chaos’ first new album in more than three; that alone would be cause for celebration, but there’s plenty of other good shit coming out today, too! Our previews of this week’s new releases after the jump.
Abysmal Dawn – Leveling The Plane of Existence (Relapse)
Abysmal Dawn return with their second album for Relapse Records. The follow-up to 2008’s Programmed to Consume was recorded by John Haddad (who has recorded with Intronaut and Phobia). Erik Rutan mixed the record. MetalSucks is streaming the album in full right here.
Full Blown Chaos – Full Blown Chaos (Ironclad)
Queens, New York-based metal/hardcore band Full Blown Chaos have been around since 2000. The band has played shows with like-minded bands such as Hatebreed, Sick Of It All, and Himsa, and did a slot on second stage of the 2006 Ozzfest tour. This is their fifth album, and their first since 2007’s Heavy Lies The Crown. You can listen to the track “Villains” right here at MetalSucks.
Korperschwache – Evil Walks (Crucial Blast)
Korperschwache is a project from Austin, Texas that has included elements of drone, noise, and black metal in previous discs. Over many releases since 2005, the music has now moved from a noise project to a more drone metal sound. Most of the previous releases from the band have been released on Crucial Bliss, the CD-R and cassette imprint of Crucial Blast. A companion disc entitled Evil Crawls, featuring a few original tracks, b-sides, and outtakes, has been posted online here.
Lazarus A.D. – Black Rivers Flow (Metal Blade)
Formed in 2005, Lazarus A.D. recorded their debut album, The Onslaught, in 2007, though Metal Blade re-released the album in 2009. Their new record finds the band modifying their sound slightly, which makes sense when you consider the period of time since they’ve recorded an album.
Most Precious Blood – Do Not Resuscitate (Bullet Tooth)
Most Precious Blood sort of disappeared after the touring cycle for their 2005 album, Merciless. Numerous small messages surfaced from the band, stating they were to “bow out of the mass appeal madness” and that they wanted “nothing to do with the glossy culture” anymore. In 2009, a picture appeared on MPB’s website of an unknown person holding a CD-R labeled “MPB DNR 1-19-09 Final Mixes.” It has taken this long for the record to get a release. With a title like Do Not Resuscitate, we have to wonder — is this their last album?
Noisear – Subvert The Dominant Paradigm (Relapse)
Back in 2009, Noisear was scheduled to play my living room on their summer tour directly preceding the release of their Grindcore Marauders LP with Superbad and Sean. They ended up not making it, and it took until the release of This Comp Kill Fascists Vol. II to find out if the band was still together. After that compilation was released, the band announced they were signing with Relapse Records. Needless to say, I am incredibly stoked on this album. Noisear has released a handful of splits and tracks for compilations, but this will be their second full record, after 2008’s Pyroclastic Annihilation.
Overcome – The Great Campaign of Sabotage (Facedown)
Overcome originally broke up in 2000. Now they’re back with a few changes. The only original members are bassist Jason Bowen and former frontman Jason Stinson now plays guitar. The band has referred to their re-jiggered lineup as a “new chapter” in the band’s history. This will be the first record since the band’s posthumous release, More Than Death.
Rot In Hell – As Pearls Before Swine (Deathwish Inc.)
Rot In Hell are a band from the U.K. now putting out their first proper record. They play metallic hardcore in the Holy Terror style of bands, such as Integrity.
Thomas Giles – Pulse (Metal Blade)
“Thomas Giles” is the pseudonym of Between the Buried and Me vocalist Tommy Rogers, and this record is definitely a departure from the pursuits of his main musical project. Pulse is a record that uses piano, acoustic guitar, synthesizer. and Rogers’ voice. The record is the first under this new pseudonym, although he did release a self-titled record as simply “Giles” in 2005.
