BEST TWELVE-MINUTE USBM SONG EVER OF THE DAY: KRALLICE’S “THE CLEARING”
Okay, so, like, I didn’t even know there was a new Krallice album coming out. And I’d feel dumb, if I weren’t so happy. There’s a new Krallice album coming out!!! On April 26!!! It’s called Diotima, which is apparently a reference to a German poet I’m not smart enough to have ever heard of before!!! And “The Clearing,” the new song which has debuted on Stereogum, suggests that it’s not going to disappoint!!!
And… beyond that I don’t know what to say. The song is a little over twelve minutes long, and these dudes are brilliant, so it’s a lot to digest; as I write this, I’m in the middle of my second listen, and I still haven’t quite grasped it. (I should probably start by reading this poem.) I do know that I like it, though, and ultimately, that’s all that matters, right?
So go listen to the thing, and then splooge all over the comments section. Like I was saying, Diotima comes out April 26 on Profound Lore. That’s the still-a-work-in-progress cover art by bassist/vocalist Nick McMaster, who Stereogum says “has substantially increased his writing role and generally made his presence felt” on this album. Very cool.
