ONE LAST DIO SONG TO HELP SAY FAREWELL
Well, here’s a story that should make everyone happy: It looks like next year may see the release of a new Dio song — the last one the legendary vocalist got to record before he passed away earlier this year. It’s not official yet, but Dio guitarist Craig Goldy tells Classic Rock:
“We were working on tracks for a new Dio album just before Ronnie died in May. And we did almost finish one song. Wendy (Dio, the great singer’s widow/manager) has been talking about reissuing the Magica album (originally released in 2000) with bonus tracks, including this one.
“The thing is that the lyrics deal with what Ronnie was going through at the time, when he was battling cancer. So now they are very emotional. It’s hard to listen without a lump in your throat.”
I’d be curious to know what Goldy means when he says that the song was “almost finished.” Assuming that RJD’s vocals were 100% complete, it’s hard to have a problem with the band finishing up their end of the work. On the other hand, if there’s, like, a whole verse that Dio never got to record or something, uh, that might be more problematic. But for purely selfish reasons, I will assume that this is not the case. And it would (obviously) be really amazing to get one last Dio song.
We’ll post more info as it emerges…
