CINEMETAL ROUND-UP: NEW CLIPS FROM DEATH ANGEL, DISTURBED, AND HELLMOUTH

Do I really hafta write a stupid little intro every time we do one of these things? You guys know what you’re in for at this point.

First up we have “Truce,” the new clip from Death Angel. It’s a fairly generic metal video, with corpses, gore, a political message, and performance footage. But it’s friggin’ Death Angel, so it gets respect points right off the bat. I’d ponder the chances of Headbanger’s Blah ever airing such a yucky video, but given that Headbanger’s Belch now airs so late my DVR doesn’t even recognize it as a legitimate program, it obviously doesn’t matter. The right people will see this clip if they wanna see this clip.

Next up is “The Animal” by Disturbed, which apparently really did premiere on MTV, because Disturbed have their finger on the pulse of modern metal culture like that. This is also pretty standard metal video shit, and I don’t really have a problem with that. But I do have a problem with the music.

Anyone remember that kid Revnant who used to leave comments around here? He was like that other annoying brat before that other annoying brat ever existed. But he always used to defend Disturbed, and give us shit whenever we made jokes about David Draiman and monkey noises. His argument was something to the effect of, “Draiman only made monkey noises on that one album, and if you ever listened to their newer stuff, you’d see how their sound has matured.” Meanwhile, this track opens with Draiman makes monkey noises (albeit in a lower register than his previous chimp mating calls), and has the exact same overly-simple chugga-chug riff as every other Disturbed song I’ve ever heard. So, Revnant, if you’re reading this… you’re full of it, dude. This band is still awful.

Finally, we have Hellmouth’s “Amen, Assholes,” which made its debut on Invisible Oranges. It’s a pretty standard hardcore performance video, but the song is like a bajillion times better than most other hardcore I’ve heard this year, so it has that going for it.
