MILK MILK LEMONADE
On October 12, 2009, this website fearlessly — or, depending on who you ask, naively – -published my lengthy five-out-of-five-horns review of Depths, the debut album from Chicago’s deathcore beefbringers Oceano. Who could have anticipated the response from the MetalSucks readership –or from the staff for that matter? Retrospectively, Axl and Vince deemed the review one of their favorite posts in the site’s history, and in recognition of this anniversary, the guys have handed over the reins to yours truly.
Long story short: I’M TAKING OVER METALSUCKS FOR THE DAY!
Coincidentally, today is an extraordinary day for hardcore releases. NYHC stalwarts Madball unleash Empire, their latest batch of curbstomping anthems, and Los Angeles raiders Donnybrook set out to break whatever teeth you’ve got left with The Beast Inside. Keith Morris, who practically invented the genre by co-founding Black Flag and Circle Jerks, kicks it old-school with a 7″ release from his brand new band OFF!, while the Arson Anthem supergroup pays tribute to the hardcore’s dirtiest strains with the so-called “full-length” Insecurity Notoriety.
A lot of people were totally confused the last time I took over the site, so let me say at the outside that I promise to be as clear as possible and totally avoid sarcasm in all of my posts today. I’ve got album reviews, interviews, and other miscellany that I’ve been dying to share with you, so draw some Xs on your hands with a black sharpie, do some preliminary windmilling, and prepare for THE. MOST. HARDCORE. DAY. EVER.
