BAND BRIAN POSEHN LIKES GETS A NEW SINGER
So I interviewed Brian Posehn about his new album, Fart and Wiener Jokes, last week, and one of the things I asked him was whether or not there were any new (not nu) metal bands he enjoyed. I thought the dude responsible for “Metal By Numbers” would be a cranky old man who didn’t like anything recorded any later than rougly 1990 or so, but I was wrong – Posehn likes plenty of younger bands.
One band that he cited is Icarus Witch, who he praised simply for “trying the traditional metal thing.” Well, these metal traditionalists have just announced via MySpace that they have a new singer:
“We are excited to announce yet another massive shift in our ranks as we welcome new vocalist Christopher Shaner to the Icarus Witch circle and part ways amicably with original vocalist, Matthew Bizilia. Matthew’s contributions to the band have been immeasurable over the past six years. While this was a serious decision for both parties, professional differences of opinion led to the change. Bizilia is a phenomenal talent who will always be a part of the Witch family as we wish him much success on his future ventures.”
Shaner will make his live debut with the group at the end of May, when they open for Lizzy Borden at Pittsburgh’s Hard Rock Café. (Hey, that rhymed!)
I think these dudes are perhaps a little too traditionalist, if ya know what I mean; but I could see them being really fun live, so who knows. Let me know what you think in the comments section.
Meanwhile, Posehn’sart and Wiener Jokes comes out April 27 on Relapse. We’ll post the interview that same day.
