METALSUCKS INTERN MATT HEAFOWITZ’ TOP TWELVE METAL ALBUMS OF 2009
MetalSucks intern Matt Heafowitz is making his editorial debut with his own Best of ’09 Br00tal-list! What can we say? The guy’s got great taste. We taught him well.
Albums that made me moist
I’m not going to say that you haven’t heard an album like Burn before but so what, it’s thrash to the core and I just want to bang my head.
11. 3 Inches of Blood – Here Waits Thy Doom
That good ol’ NWOBHM sound is the reason I’m writing this list today so it’s good to see it hasn’t disappeared. “Battles and Brotherhood” are words to live by.
10. The Binary Code – Suspension of Disbelief
The album has some shortcomings as it’s only their first, but it shows so much promise. When you can write a song like “Suspension of Disbelief II” that sounds like Joe-jira and the gang then you’ve got my attention.
9. The Red Chord – Fed Through Teeth Machine
Top-notch riffs and tight song work are the metal prescription for a good album.
It’s not their most bestest work but nothing beats listening to the “Contractor” lyrics “big business is booming like it’s the 4th of July” while watching the fireworks on the 4th of July. God Bless America for giving us LoG.
Albums that got me wet
Forget Red Bull; listening to this album will give you all the energy you need.
6. Slayer – World Painted Blood
Thank god for us metal newcomers that at least 1 of the Big 4 still bring it like they did back in the day
5. Skeletonwitch – Breathing the Fire
I just want to headbang to this album all day long. I don’t think it will ever get old.
Word’s really can’t describe the feelings and emotions one goes through listening to this album.
3. Between the Buried and Me – The Great Misdirect
I wonder if there is a genre of music BTBAM can’t incorporate into their masterpieces.
Even the New York Times thought it was “fantastic in every sense.” Nuff said.
1. Revocation – Existence is Futile
I believe that this album is going to go down as one of the marque albums for the younger generation of metalheads.
