THE BEAST WITH TOO MANY BACKS
Like my e-comrade Vince, I too am planning to check out Canadian stoner/doom/mammal metallurgists Bison B.C. at tomorrow night’s CMJ Metal Blade/Relapse/Lifeforce showcase at Knitting Factory (Also playing: Psyopus, Tombs, This Or The Apocalypse, Left To Remain). Now if, like me, the very thought of CMJ causes you to break out in painful hives and cold sweats, the next chance for New Yorkers to see Bison B.C. will be as part of the all-day long (4pm – 4am, apparently) Beasts Of The East festival (tickets here) on November 2nd at Club Europa in Brooklyn.
While I can confirm confidently that this monstrosity of heaviness will be headlined by noise rockers Harvey Milk, I’ve spent weeks trying to find one reliable, centralized source offering lineup information as the Europa website sucks almost as hard as Sarah Palin supporters. My own digging inevitably yielded an official-looking MySpace page and some fliers that strangely do not include Bison B.C., but do mention Tombs, Wetnurse, Unearthly Trance, and a whole slew of locally grown metal acts. Gadzooks!
Frustratingly, Beasts Of The East catastrophically coincides with the NYC date of the Hydra Head sponsored Champions Of Sound tour with its own impressive (and actually fucking confirmed) lineup of Pelican, Stephen Brodsky, Kayo Dot, and Zozobra at Bowery Ballroom. Oh, and fucking Killdozer’s playing Knitting Factory as well. I’d seriously contemplate cloning myself if this town weren’t just barely able to tolerate one of me. New Yorkers: if you don’t go to at least one of these concerts, I’ll pretty much hate you for it.
