“WINTER SESSIONS”, BY BOSTON’S DISAPPEARER, IS THE BEST POST-METAL RELEASE OF 2008 THUS FAR…AND IT’S TOTALLY FREE
On a tip from our esteemed colleague Crustcake, I recently checked out the new (free) Disappearer EP, entitled “Winter Sessions”, and for fans of stony post-metal, this recording couldn’t possibly disappoint. Sludgy, thick, growling, intelligent, melodic, exploratory — these are all positive attributes, nawmsayin?? Apparantly the band (which contains members from Doomriders) just added vocals to their previously instrumental onslaught, and the result is a mature, refined yet raw take on aggressive music.
Clearly I’ve already become a huge fan, which makes me feel like an enormous d-bag for just barely missing the band’s recent set at a Brooklyn loft party. Granted, we caught a stellar performance from local powerhouse Tombs, but once we realized we had missed Disappearer, my onerous sense of shmuckiness set in…again.
Perhaps such is my plight.
Don’t miss out on this one — you can download the 4-song EP (which incidentally was overseen by Stephen Brodsky from Cave In) from Disappearer’s website. Did I mention that it’s FREE? Go there now, you dirty rat bastard, you…
