DOWNLOAD A LIVE RECORDING OF METALLICA BACK WHEN THEY WERE STILL COOL

As you’re probably aware, after Metallica shut down Napster, they started their own site, LiveMetallica.com, where one could legally download mp3s of their live gigs. Whether you feel they did this to try and prove that they were still friends of the computer generation or because they really do just feel that they should be, y’know, paid for their work depends on how cynical you are.

ANYWAY, in addition to allowing you to, say, download a show you were at for a mere ten bucks, the band adds an entire show for free download every now and again. Whether you think they do this because they really care about their fans or to try and prove… well, you get it.

So the latest free downloadable recording is the band’s legendary live appearance at Donnington in ’85. That’s right: Cliff Burton-era Metallica, at friggin’ Donnington. No fan boy can not be excited about that. This is the first nice thing we’ve said about Metallica in a long time, and something tells me it will be the last nice thing we say about Metallica for some time to come.
