SEVENDUST, THE WORKING-MAN’S METAL BAND, ANNOUNCE ANOTHER NEW ALBUM

30

Sevendust

Sevendust have always been about touring, touring and more touring, and as such seem perfectly suited to embrace what is quickly becoming the”new” model: using recorded music as a loss-leader to make money on the road. And the road is where Sevendust shines; they put on one of the most kickass and exciting live shows around, and they never skimp on production. So it comes as no surprise that Sevendust have announced they will head into the studio this month to record yet ANOTHER album, their third in 4 years, tentatively titled The 7th chapter and due March 4, 2008.

The 7th Chapter, which will be their 7th studio album, comes a mere year after their most recent effort Alpha, released March 6, 2007. By the time the album comes out, Sevendust will have released three albums since ex-Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery’s Dark New Day has released even one. Ouch. At least the guys in Dark New Day are busy touring with such awesome bands as Korn and Evanescence. Hooray for money gigs!

Sevendust’s unique position of owning their own label (7 Bros.) with major label distribution is part of what makes this frequent album release schedule possible. Since they’re the ones footing the bill, they don’t have to be concerned with things like fickle A&Rs, expensive music videos, and radio singles. And it doesn’t matter how many records they sell because they’re using touring income, not record sales, to recoup — against themselves! So they just release a new record and let the major distribution get it into stores, then get back to the road where they can actually make some money, the good old fashioned way. Even if they’re having trouble selling tickets on a tour’s third pass through that most un-metal of cities NYC, the band’s popularity in the rest of the country means these guys should be just fine.

As for the album — I’m sure it’ll be another 3/5-stars effort of perfectly good songs chock full o’ John Connolly riffs and everything else Sevendust is known for. But don’t expect any surprises.
