CANDLEBOX SET TO RECORD A NEW ALBUM NO ONE WILL CARE ABOUT

170

CandleboxThe reunited post-grunge / feaux-alternative rock band Candlebox will enter the studio in December to begin work on their fourth studio album, according to a report on Blabbermouth. Original members Kevin Martin, Peter Klett and Scott Mercado will announce a new bass player soon, and the record is tentatively scheduled for a Spring 2008 release. As reported on MetalSucks back in June, the band has two new songs on their MySpace page; both are expected to be on the album.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love “Far Behind” as much as the next guy, but is anyone outside of a small group of hardcore fans who still wear flannel around their waists going to care about a new Candlebox record? Was anyone really a FAN of this band in the first place, or did they just like the singles? It’s really hard to imagine a new Candlebox song catching on in any sort of significant way barring a bonafide smash hit or a complete 180, and the new material posted thus far suggests neither. This strikes me simply as a platform for the band to get a record label to spend money marketing a tour — which begs the question, how many people will go see a Candlebox tour?

Personally, I’m holding out hope for the SevenMarySpongeDoctorsBox 2008 Summer package tour, coming to a shed near you.
