APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION: ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED BY THREE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF GN’R THAT NOBODY CARES ABOUT
Seriously: I already feel guilty about that headline. No one will ever convince me that Steven Adler, Duff McKagan, and especially Izzy Stradlin weren’t instrumental in the mammoth success that is Appetite. Still, you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think that nine out of ten of the people who clamor for a reunion of GN’R’s “original line-up” don’t really just mean a reunion between Axl, Slash, and whatever other musicians they deem fit to share their stage.
In any case, Axl was, needless to say, a no-show at the Key Club performance over the weekend; Slash apparently did show up… and left before he could play, due to undisclosed circumstances. Since McKagan played even though his father died just a few days ago, we have to imagine that something really serious came up, forcing Slash to make a quick exit – or he’s just shooting heroin again and had to go score. Either way, below find a photo of Slash at the event with the man that became Izzy’s eventual replacement, Gilby Clarke, who, even though he did not play on Appetite (or Use Your Illusions, for that matter), we’re sure was only all too happy to have a semi-legitimate excuse to show up someplace and have his picture taken with Slash.
That’s Slash’s mom on the right, FYI. Doesn’t Gilby look as though he’s trying desperately not to start wringing Slash’s neck while screaming “WHY WASN’T I ASKED TO JOIN VELVET REVOLVER?!?! DO YOU KNOW WHAT I’VE BEEN REDUCED TO?!?! DID YOU SEE ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA?!?!”
