VIDEOS OF THE DAY: GNR’S “SWEET CHILD” RE-RECORDED/DO THE AXL

Well, sometimes life throws you a curve ball. Our full Appetite for Destruction 20th anniversary retrospective, unfortunately, won’t be ready ’til Monday – but in the meantime, here are two more videos to tide you over. The first is the version of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” that appeared over the closing credits of the Adam Sandler vehicle Big Daddy – no, not the shitty Sheryl Crow version. This one is noteworthy because, once upon a time, after the original GN’R disbanded, Axl Rose actually got it into his head to re-record Appetite with his new line-up – which, at the time, consisted of Robin Finck on lead guitars, Paul Tobias (once known as Paul Huge) on rhythm guitars, Tommy Stinson on bass, Josh Freese on drums, and Dizzy Reed on keyboards. Although it might have been an interesting curiosity, it’s also a terrible fucking idea, and it’s probably best for all of us that this recording was never released; the only part of it we’ve heard comes in halfway through the guitar solo of this version of “SCOM,” when the song changes from a live recording of the original line-up to Axl’s re-recorded version of the song.

As an added treat, this second video will teach you to “do the Axl.” So get those hips movin’…
