THE ALBUM OF THE DAY IS… SCISSORFIGHT, JAGGERNAUT
If there were such a genre as hick-metal, Scissorfight would be it’s very embodiment. The lumberjack-like Scissorfight are from the backwoods Appalachian Mountains of New Hampshire and they feel like letting you know about it. In every song. Typical Scissoright topics include ice fishing with hand grenades, stuff about the granite state (New Hampshire’s nickname), deer hunting, dynamite, “backwoods motherfuckery,” the Appalachians being badass, their frustrations with the Massachusetts turnpike… you get the idea. The stellar 2006 release Jaggernaut finds the band in top form, playing songs drenched in dirty southern metal sludge — a gasoline-drenched, whiskey-in-a-flask, John-Deere-tractor-driving version of Clutch that would kick the living shit out of us city folk if we ever took a wrong turn down some winding backwoods road.
